Because I want to focus my research on Southern Africa and I have a particular interest in Zambia I found the article, ‘Early infant diagnosis of HIV infection in Zambia through mobile phone texting of blood test results’ informative. Testing notification fell from 44.2 days to 26.7 days with the introduction of health facility cell phones to send SMS messages to health facilities. Before results would have been delivered via courier.  Thus results can reach caregivers faster as well in rural areas.

As mobile phones and internet become more and more accessible the possibilities of health promotion continue to grow and hopefully this means improvements in health outcomes.
